Anne Marsh-Caldwell to her daughter Lady Mary Heath at Anstie Grange, Surrey - 1860s:-
"I shall place it with your other letters which I cannot find in my heart to burn, whether from Oxford or elsewhere. The time will come when this form of society has passed, like a charm, away that they be a most valuable record of society, thought, habits and customs of this interesting period of history in which we live."
I think she said this 20 years earlier to her son Martin when he started at Eton as well, and kept all his letters in a well organised pile.
Old Anstie Grange, Holmwood in Sir Leopold Heaths time, photographed by Marion Heath in 1886. Sir Leopold had it rebuilt in early 1862 and was being repainted in June 1864 causing Lady Mary to evacuate everyone to Linley Wood for three weeks.

Linley Wood for James Caldwell, 1790s. Extended by Stamford in 1800s. Undermined by the coal mining of the Marsh-Caldwell ladies during their long tenure, subsided during Fredericks time so that daddio said he could see right through the splits in the walls.
