The Pavilion

27^th July 1849

Dear Geo [George?],

I send enclosed a sketch of a paper which I wish you to draw up. It will have six columns, the leadings as given. You will then procure from Russell, to whom show this letter, the First Cost in S.D. If each instrument on our Printed List of 1849 madg sp t & R.W. This for first column. By adding 20 per cent, omitting farthings, you will fill up second column. The remaining four columns you can fill up from your own documents.

When you come to the grands, you must break the Comm and Tariff columns, so as to shew the operation of the varying prices, and commissions. You will add a note stating that the usual is 10 per cent. That this doesnt affect the fixed commissions, neither are these affected by the granting the Tariff Price.

When you shall have drawn up this paper, then be pleased to send a copy at once to Mr Thos senr, Mr Walter and Mr Thos junior. All this as soon as possible. Of course this is a confidential matter. If you can procure any retail lists of this year of [collard, collect?] and leased, give them in at same time as you give in these papers. If you have any authentic information concerning their [disits & ocus?] set it down in writing also.

Diary of Anne Marsh-Caldwell 

23rd December 1849

Between one and two in the morning Arthur breathed his last surrounded by his family and I began the desolate history of my widowhood. Crofton and Fanny were here and present, Aunt Me and Georgey, Sir Hyde Parker came about 10 o'clock in the morning after all was over, I saw him in my room.

29th December 1849 - Saturday

The lamented husband and father finally left us and was carried to his father's vault at Gillingham in Kent [St Mary Magdalene]. Georgey watched all night by his coffin with Mrs Turner and saw him depart by a beautiful moonlight through the wood poor (small?) in a long mourning cloak walking before the hearse which took him to London after by rail to Rochester. Captain Crofton, George many friends, Sir Hyde Parker, Colonel Shee, Messrs (Deloner?) Creed, N Holland, R Pigott. Amelia and Georgey spent the day here and staid till Thursday 31st.
