County Council Inquiry.
An inquiry was held here on the 18th inst. by a committee of the county council into the proposal made by the urban district council for an extension of the urban area, to comprise the whole of the parishes of Dorking urban and Dorking rural, to enable them to take steps to acquire the under-taking of the Dorking Water Company.

Mr T.W. Weeding deputy-clerk of the peace for the county, attended as clerk to the committee, and amongst those also present were - - -the Rev. C.H. Gould (South Holmwood), the Rev. S.C. Lowry (North Holmwood), Admiral Sir Leopold Heath, Colonel Helsham-Jones, - - -and many others.
Evidence having been heard, the committee retired,and on their return the Chairman intimated that they had come to the conclusion that the promoters had not made out a sufficient case, and they would so report to the county council.

Marriage of Miss Baker and the Rev.J.J. Ffoulkes.
A very interesting marriage was solemnised at All Saints Church, Odd Rode, on Tuesday morning, viz. that of Katherine Mary Baker, eldest daughter of Mr George Barrington Baker, C.C., and J.P., and grand-daughter of General Sir Richard Wilbraham K.C.B., of Rode Hall, with the Rev. Piers John Benedict Ffoulkes, rector of Odd Rode, and the son of his Honour Judge Wynne Ffoulkes of the Chester circuit. - - -
The invited guests who were present at church and afterwards partook of the wedding breakfast at Rode Hall, were:- His Honour Judge Wynne Ffoulkes, Mrs Atcherley, step-sister of the bridegroom, Lord and Lady Hampton, aunt and uncle of the bride, Mrs P. Wilbraham and Miss Grace Wilbraham, Mr F.R. Twemshaw (Peatswood), the Misses Marsh-Caldwell, Mr Lumley Cator,

Betley and Madeley
The annual gathering in connection with this habitation was held at Betley Court, by permission of Mrs Twemlow, Ruling Councillor, who threw open her grounds for the occasion.
After tea a meeting was held at which Mrs Twemlow presided, and among those present were - - -Miss Marsh-Caldwell - - - Mrs Twemlow stated that the Habitation was in a very flourishing state, its memebership; having increased from a little over one hundred to four hundred. She bore testimony to the excellent work done by Mrs Hollins as Hon. Secretary. Addresses were given by Mr Ackersley and Mr Handcock.
