Talke Garden Party -
A successful garden party and sale of work in connection with St.Martin's Mission, Talke Pitts, and promoted on behalf of the Parochial Clergy Fund, took place on Monday in the Rectory grounds at Talke.
Brilliant weather faoured the event, and there was a goodly attendance at the opening ceremony, which took place at four o'clock. Among those present were: The Revs. J.H.L. Edwards B.A. (rector) and Mrs Edwards; Mrs R.N.Wood and Miss Wood of Bignall End; the Misses Poole (Alsager), Mrs Pauli (Audley), Miss Wright (Audley), Mrs Goodwin (Silverdale), and Mrs Newington and Miss Everill (Keele).
The Rector introduced Miss Marsh-Caldwell of Linley Hall, who in a neat little speech, expressed the pleasure if afforded her to declare the proceedings open. A hearty vote of thanks was afterwards proposed to Miss Marsh-Caldwell on the motion of Captain R. M. Luckraft C.A., seconed by Mr Frank Jenkinson. - - - -
The Orpheus Glee Party of Stoke gave a number of selections and humorous songs were contributed by Mrs Bryan of Stoke. Mr F. Riley's string band provided the music for dancing. Garden games, competitions and a shooting range were provided and a very enjoyable time was spent.
