Talke Tribute to Rev. J. W. Mellor - Presentation by Parishioners.
An interesting gathering of parishioners and friends took place at St.Saviour's School, Talke, last evening when a presentation was made to the Rev. J. W. Mellor and Mrs Mellor on the eve of their departure from the district.
Mr Mellor, who has been priest-in-charge of St. Saviour's Church, Talke, for the past six year, has been appointed Vicar of Knutton, in succession to the Rev. R.A. Burge, and will be instituted on Thursday.

The Rev. J.H.L. Edwards (Rector of Talke) presided, and was supported by Mrs Heath-Caldwell, of Linley Wood, Mr S.C.L. Gingell (Licensed Lay Reader) and Mr Arthur Lunt (Churchwarden). Major-General F.C. Heath-Caldwell, who was to have made the presentation, sent a letter expressing his inability to attend through illness, and conveying his best wishes for the happiness and success of Mr and Mrs Mellor in the years to come.

The Presentation
Mrs Heath-Caldwell, on behalf of the parishioners, presented Mr and Mrs Mellor with a silver tea service and tray cloth as a token of the affection and esteem in which they are held by the parishioners, and Mrs Heath-Caldwell also expressed her personal wishes, and those of her husband for Mr and Mrs Mellor's welfare and happiness in their new sphere of life.

The Rev J.W. Mellor expressed the gratitude of his wife and himself for the kind expressionsof appreciation of their work, and for the gift, and he tendered thanks to Major-General Heath-Caldwell and Mrs Heath-Caldwell who had given such generous support to the church work, and to all other helpers, who had been most encouraging.
A vote of thanks to Mrs Heath-Caldwell for making the presentation, coupled with the sincere wishes of the parishioners for the recovery of Major-General Heath-Caldwell was proposed by Mr. Arthur Lunt (Churchwarden), and seconded by Mr Harry Thompson.

Talke Personal Service League
Under the auspices of the Talke branch of the Personal Service League, a concert was held in the Butt Land Picture Palace. Dr W.A. MacDonald presided, and was supported by Mrs W.A. MacDonald, Mrs Heath-Caldwel, Mrs Peters, Mrs E. Boulton, Mrs R. Smith, Mrs Penlington and Mr E. Hodgkinson
The Chairman outlined the work of the local branch, and said valuable assistance had been given by the headmistress and teaching staff of the Varndean High Schook, Brighton, and generous support had been given to the work by Major-General F. C. Heath-Caldwell, C.B., and Mrs Heath-Caldwell, of Linley Wood, and by the officials and members of the committee.
The program included duets and quartettes by members of the Andover Quartet Party, of Newcastle, songs by Miss Miller (contralto), of Stoke, Mr. Horace Jones (baritone), of Tunstall and Mr Jack Dutton of Newcastle, and pianoforte selections by Miss C.M. Sutton, who also was the accompanist.
Mr J. Hodgkinson voiced the thanks of the local branch committee to the Chairman, artists and all helpers.
Organisation work was carried out by Mrs E. Boulton and Mr Arthur Buckley

Hanley Scout and Guide Rally - Jubilee Demonstration of Loyalty.

The North Staffordshire Groups of Boy Scouts and Girl Guides joined in a great rally at Hanley Park on Saturday afternoon, as a King's Jubilee symbol of the gratitude of all ranks "for the great gifts of Scouting and Guiding during the reign of King George V."Approximately 5,000 of the youth of the Potteries and district took part and presented an imposing scene which will long be remembered.

Funeral of Mr G.F. Fletcher-Twemlow - County and Village Tributes - Impressive Service at Betley.
Residents of Betley and representatives of the public life of North Staffordshire joined in general expressions of sympathy at the funeral yesterday of Mr George Fletcher Fletcher-Twemlow, of Betley Court, Deputy Lieutenant of Staffordshire, and for many years a prominent figure in the public life of the county.
The little village church of Betley was crowded for the service, tenants from the Betley and Balterley estates attending in large numbers.
The casket was taken to the church in the morningand lay in the chancel, surrounded by a full-length cross of red carnations sent by the widow.
Many organisations with which Mr Fletcher-Twemlow was connected were represented, the Fire Brigade, of which he was President, attending under Mr James Brassington and forming a guard of honour at the main gates. A detachment of the Staffordshire County Constabulary attended, under Chief Superintendent A.J. Richards.

Cheshire Companies' Successful Rally at Alsager
Fascinating displays and many other attractions provided admirable entertainment for a large galthering at The Hall, Alsager on Saturday afternoon, when, by permission of Sir Francis and Lady Joseph a rally was held by the Lawton and District Girl Guides
The grounds of The Hall made a delightful settihng for the proceedings and the rally was most successful. The weather was ideal. Women Unionist' Effort at Fenton - Opened by Duchess of Sutherland - Tribute to Work of Mrs Copeland.
The Duchess of Sutherland visited Fenton yesterday to perform the opening ceremony at an American tea held under the auspices of the Women's Branch of the Stoke Conservative and Unionist Association, of which she is President.
The event, which was held at the Town Hall, attracted a gathering of nearly 500 including many distinguished and enthusiastic workers for the Conservative cause.
Before the opening the leading officals of the ten Wards in the Stoke Division were presented to the Duchess of Sutherland.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Captain Unwil, V.C., R.N., and in addition to the Duchess of Sutherland, others present included the Countess of Harrowby, Admiral Lord Stafford, Captain the Hon. T.C. Fitzherbert, Mrs Fitzherbert, Mr Ronald Copeland and Mrs Ronald Copeland M.P., Mr Adam Maitland M.P. for Faversham, Kent, General Heath-Caldwell and Mrs Heath-Caldwell, Mrs Hall, Miss Hall (Market Drayton), Miss Una Hardy (Dunstall) -

Retirement of Capt. C.H. Heath-Caldwell D.S.C. - The retirement is announced of Commander C.H. Heath-Caldwell D.S.C., (at his own request), with promotion to the rank of Captain. Captain Heath-Caldwell has had an honourable career in the Royal Navy, and was decorated with the Distinguished Service Corps for war services when he commanded the armed launch Miner on the Rivers Euphrates and Tigris in 1914-15

Success of Infirmary Ball - Inaugural Effort by President - A Distinguished Company.
The first North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary President's supper ball was held at the King's Hall, Stoke, and achieved a success which assures it of a repitition in the future as a means to assisting the funds of the Infirmary.
Mr Edmund R. Corn, President of the Infirmary, who was Chairman of the committee who made the arrangements, is to be complimented on providing his guests with a most enjoyable evening and instituting a function which should prove a popular addidtion to the social events of the season in North Staffordshire.

Alsager Golf Club - Annual Dinner and Prize Presentation
Over a hundred members and friends attended the annaul dinner, presentation of prizes and dance at the Alsager Golf Club, held in St.Mary's School.
In the absence through illness of the President (Major-General F.C. Heath-Caldwell C.B.,) Mr T.D.H. Rigby (captain) presided at the dinner, supported by Mr H.V. Lynam (Secretary), Mr R.J. Holmes (Treasurer), Miss K. Stanes (Ladies' Captain) and Mrs K. Rigby (Ladies' Secretary).

Pension for Admiral
Admiral Sir Herbert Leopold Heath has been awarded a good service pension of £300 a year in the vacancy created by the recent death of Admiral Sir Edward E.E.---ford. Sir Herbert Heath is a survivor of the H.M.S. Victoria, which sank off Tripoli in 1893, after a collision with H.M.S. Camperdown. At Jutland he commanded the cruiser squadrons
