War Weapons Week -Inaugurated at Newcastle and Kidsgrove

The Parade - Before the meeting, there was a War Weapons Parade, in which units of the Army, the R.A.F., the Home Guard, the A.T.S., police and local Civil Defense organisations took part. The saluted was taken by Major-General Heath-Caldwell C.B.

Sir Francis Joseph, opening the campaign, spoke of the food position, saying that slowly but surely, the inequalities of ratioing were being overcome. He was glad that a scheme was worked out for miners and other men doing hard manual work to have extra rations. They needed and deserved them.

Warminster - Westbury District Council

Refuse Collection

Various complaints were received by letters on various aspects of refuse collection and salvage, while the Rev. C.H. Heath-Caldwell had written suggesting that the Council should organise its own collection with its own lorry.

The Clerk said he thought they would have to come to the conclusion that the Council would have to undertake its own collection; otherwise the Ministry of Supply would become very dissatisfied.
The Chairman pointed out that a scheme for direct collection by the Council had been turned down some time ago.

A report from the General Purposes Committee stated that an officer of the Ministry of Supply had expressed dissatisfaction at the amount of salvage collected.

The Council eventually agreed that the officers be instructed to formulate a scheme to be presented to the next meeting.
