Naval Charitable Society
On the 6th instant, a Quarterly Meeting of the Members of the Naval Charitable Society was held at the Thatched House Tavern, St.James’s St, at which were present- Admiral Lord Radstock,in the Chair; Vice-Admiral Hunter, Rear-Admiral Taylor, – – -Twenty five cases were presented for consideration, 18 of which were relieved, and seven rejected as inadmissable, being from the relatives of Officers not subscribed to the Society. This very laudable Charity, like all others, naturally experiences the severe effects of the extraordinary pressure of the present times; but so admirable and institution, we are persuaded, will not be suffered by a great nation and a grateful people to fall even to temporary decay – – – Donations and Subscriptions are received by the following Bankers, &c., – – Marsh, Sibbald and Co, Berners Street. – – –

Public Ledger and Daily Advertiser
Voughton v. Fueillard
The plaintiff, a clerk in the banking house of Marsh, Sibbald and co, brought an action against the defendant, a dancing-master, to recover compensation for criminal conversation with his wife. Mr Serjeant Best stated the plaintiff’s case: – The acquaintance between the parties was of several years standing. The defendant, who lives in splendour, after becoming acquainted with the plaintiff, introduced himself to lodge in the same house, professing the warmest friendship for the husband, and was permitted occasionally to drive his wife to balls, &c., whilst by a taste for dress &c., she reduced him to embarrassed circumstances. The plaintiff, being in debt, was obliged to abscond; and being afterwards in prison, the defendant took advantage of his pecuniary difficulties to seduce the affections of his friend’s wife. – – – –

Morning Herald (London)
Afflicting Case – Mr James Marner, a respectable Port Butcher, residing at No.229 High Holborn, died suddenly on Wednesday, the 27th of August, 1817, while employed in his business. This awful event has left his Widow and Eight Children not only in extreme affliction, but entirely destitute of the means of subsistence. It is proposed to attempt raising from benevolent persons so much money as will enable Mr.s M., who is well qualified to conduct the business – – – Any Contributions for this purpose will be gratefully received, and may be paid at the house of Messrs Marsh, Sibbald and Co., Bankers, in Berners Street, Oxford Steet, London – – –
