– Occupying a high position among the latter class was Mr Richard Creed, who achieved great distinction as secretary of one of the greatest railway companies in the world – the London and North Western – died at his residence in Burwood Place on Tuesday last, aged 88 years, full of years and honours. Strangely enough, his relict, nearly the same age, only survived him about seven hours. He was born at Bellsize House, Hampstead. – – –
Mr Creed had the misfortune to be a partner in the banking-house of Marsh, Creed, Stacey and Fauntleroy. Dissatisfied for some good reason, he had for some years left the firm after a legal dissolution of partnership, but on Fauntleroy’s malpractices being found out Mr.Creed was dragged back to share the loss, on the ground that the frauds had commenced during the period of his responsible connection with the firm. If our information is correct, Mr.Creed’s loss from this ill-fated association was about £40,000
