Advertisement. British Oil.
Whereas many People are unacquainted with the Virtues of the Genuine British Oil, and its wonderful Efficacy in healing Green Wounds; 'tis thought proper to publish the following Account Verbatim, out of many others of like Nature, receiv'd from various Parts of the Kingdom.

I, John Smallwood, Nailor, in Liverpool, am ready and willing to make Oath, that as I was making a Nailor's Tool, I had the Misfortune to run a sharp Drive through my Hand, at which I thought I had been quite undone, and that I should have lost the Use of my Hand; but being recommended to buy a Bottle of British Oil, I apply'd it to the to the Wound, and in Six Days I could hold a Tool in my Hand, so as to work again. And farther, I had a Neighbour, who was a Ship-Carpenter, that cut the Top of his Foot two inches deep, with his Axe; he borrow'd my Bottle, and apply'd it to the Wound, as directed, and was so well as to work again in Ten Days.

We Samual Boden, Surgeon, Edmund Darby, and Company, having justly and effectually vindicated our Original Property of making and selling the Genuine British Oil; the Publick for the future may always be confident of being accommodated by us, with the true Original Sort; which upon an impartial Trial, will answer the most sanguine Expectations of all those that are so happy as to make use of it, and maintain the Reputation it has so wonderfully acquired by is Singular Virtues.

And that the Publick may be able to detect and avoid all future Impositions whatever, they are desired diligently to observe that the Bottles and Directions of the Genuine Oil are sealed with the same Signature as in the Margin, and is to be had of Edmund Darby, at our Laboratory in Colebrook Dale, in the County of Salop (and at our Warehouse kept by Levy Perry, one of the Proprietors at Brook's Wharf, Queenhithe, London; and by Jer.Roe in Derby; Joseph Heath in Nottingham; Samuel Cole in Wirksworth, and at his shop in Winster; J.Slater in Chesterfield, and Revel Homfray, Bookseller in Sheffield; at the usual Price of One Shilling the Bottle.

And in order as much as possible to prevent Counterfeits, which very much abound, the said E.Darby, and the said Levy Perry, give this publick Notice that all the Bills of Directions given with the said Genuine British Oil, will be signed by the Keeper of each respective Warehouse with his Name at Length.
