Admiral Sir Herbert Heath
From the book “Dreadnought: The Ship that Changed the World”
The two British naval attaches assigned to the Berlin Embassy in this period were Commander (later Captain) Philip Dumas, 1906-08, and Captain Heath, 1908-10. Dumas was deeply concerned about German naval building capability.
In July 1908 Dumas was replaced by Captain Heath, who went about his work in much the same way as Dumas and started his period as attaché by visiting the various shipyards and commenting on them in some detail.
By late October he was becoming convinced that Tirpitz was accelerating his naval building
programmes. In a report dated 21st October 1908 he state that two of the contracts for the 1909-10 programme had already been placed, six months before the money for their construction had been voted by the Reichstag. A further report dated 16th November stated that by October 1911 the German Navy might have ten dreadnoughts and three battle-cruisers completed. This was overstated as the actual number was seven dreadnoughts and two battle-0cruisers. By March 1909 Heath was reporting that by the beginning of 1912 Germany would have 13 battleships, and battleship-cruisers ready for service.

St.Saviour's Church, Talke - Sale of Work.
The annual sale of work in connection with St.Saviour's Church, Talke was held on Thursday in St.Saviour's School and was a decided success.
There was a large attendance at the opening ceremony which took place early in the afternoon. - - The Rector presided and called upon Miss R. Marsh-Caldwell of Linley Hall to open the proceedings. Miss R. Marsh-Caldwell gave a short address and expressed the great pleasure it afforded her to help a little in the great work. She most earnestly hoped that the sale would be highly successful and that their highest hopes of success would be realised (applause). A hearty vote of thanks was afterwards accorded to Miss Marsh-Caldwell on the motion of the Rev. J.H.L. Edwards, seconded by Mr Robert Naylor.
