Bell's British Theatre - 26 plates engraved by James Heath after E.F.Burney, R.Corbould, W.M.Craig, W.Hamilton, P.J. du Loutherbourg, R.Smirke, F.Wheatley Graham. Plates sizes 10 x 6cm to 14 x 8cm. Published by J.Bell, British Library. The First edition (1791-3) contains 3 engravings by James Heath which do not appear in the later, and much enlarged edition of 1797 in 34 volumes. On the other hand the 1797 edition contains 23 plates by Heath of which 20 do not appear in the first edition of only 11 volumes. 


It is noteworthy that almost all the best known engravers of the time (but not Blake) contributed to the 1797 edition.

A companion volume to 'Elegant Extracts and Prose' but with apparently no connection with the 1790 edition, though the material is similar.
