The Heath Family Engravers 1779-1878, Volume 3 - by John Heath
From Mr.Heath, No.6 Seymour Place, Somertown, London.
Hurry of business at the end & beginning of the year has made me rather delay writing you too long - The Frontispiece to the Encyclopedia not being ready at the time we originally specified and which you undertook, was a great loss and disappointment to us.
We were however very glad to receive it at the time we did and very well pleased with the work, but really, you expect too much for it. Fifty Guineas was the sum you originally mentioned and altho' that price was not actually fixed yet I could not have supposed that you would have expected so much as Pounds 21 more.
The work is not entirely your own, and we cannot without incurring blame from others pay your demand without a remonstrance in short I trust you will be satisfied with Pounds 63 for which you shall have our note payable at our Bankers in London at 3 m.f.d. - - I beg you will believe that it is no Custom of ours to cut down or dispute about accounts but in the present case, the sum charge apears to me so very high - that I could not find myself justified in paying it - without putting it before you for a reduction as I never do.
Awaiting your reply - I am etc (signed)

Westall's Bible - Part VI.
This Day is published, price One Guinea, and on large Paper, with Proof Impressions of the Plates, price Two Guineas.
Part of the Sixth of The Holy Bible,
with Engravings by Charles Heath, from Drawings by Richard Westall Esq., R.A.
Part VII. which will complete the Work, is just ready for publication. As it will contain six plates, being one more than was originally proposed, an extra charge of three shillings for the small, and five shillings for the large paper, will not, it is hoped, be deemed unreasonable.
The Proprietors having now completed their engagement with the Subscribers, are under the necessity of stating, that owing to the great increase of their expenses beyond the original estimate, the price of the work will be raised immediately after the publication of the Seventh Part; until which time they will attend to orders at the original price, addressed to No.63 Fleet Street.
