8. The Novelist's Magazine -
Published in 23 volumes between 1780 and 1788, this was, according to John Britton (Autobiography Vol.I) Harrison's first speculation. 12,000 of each number being printed, and sold each week at 6d. James Heath was engaged on engraving for it throughout: it established his reputation (and Stothard's), especially as he was by far the largest contributor. He was paid 5 guineas (£5.5.0) for each engraving, and 1 guinea in addition for retouching per plate. About 1788 , he is believed to have quarrelled with Harrisons over his fees, and he did little work for them thereafter.
