Lord Macartney's Embassy to China (Sir George Staunton) - Engraved by James Heath after W.Alexander. Plate size 24 x 35cm. Published by G.Nicol. One of the 44 plates published on April 12, 1796, in an atlas portfolio accompanying the two volumes of text. An abridged version was published by John Stockdale in 1797. (no plates by James Heath) and a second edition appeared in 1798. Farington in 1797 called the book 'ill-written' and Sir George Staunton a 'pompous man.'

Separate print - John Bannister in the character of Walter protecting two children against the attack of Oliver.' Engraved by James Heath after Richard Westall R.A., - plate size 38 x 46. Published by James Heath, 12 Newman St, and John Peter Thompson. The address, 12 Newman Street, is probably an error for 42 Newman Street. The BMPR copy which is a proof is dated 4 April 17, but the V&A copy states 'Engraved by and under the direction of Jame Heath A.R.A.' and is inscribed 'This print is with respect dedicated to George Colman Esq., (a well-known theatrical figure) by his obedient servant James Heath.' Published May 1. 1797 by John Peter Thompson, Great Newport Street, and 51 Dean Street.

Separate print - Self-portrait of James Heath - engraved by James Heath after Mrs.Beechey(?) Published by The Monthly Mirror (second issue). Inscribed 'Engraved from an original painting in the possession of Mr.Heath.' BMPR copy is marked in pencil 'Engraved by himself.' Published in Sir Richard Phillip's 'Monthly Mirror' for 1 June 1796 in an oval frame, with a write-up of the artist.

Separate print - The Death of Major Pierson - Engraved by James Heath after John Singleton Copley R.A. - plate size 55 x 76cm. Published by John and Josiah Boydell. Originally commissioned by the Boydells in 1784, the first proof was dated '1 September 1788' but the print was exhibited at the Royal Academy in an unfinished state in 1795, and finally published in 5 January 1796 and exhibited at the Shakespeare Gallery. James Heath received 2,000 guineas for the print, which was probably his masterpiece as a 'historical' engraving. 1200 copies were printed before retouching; the price to original subscribers was 3 guineas, and in Boydell's catalogue of 1807 it was priced at 4 guineas.
