Specimens of Polyautography - published by P.Andre and J.Heath - Published on 30 April 1803, this was the first set of lithographs to be published in England. Inscribed 'By His Majesty's Royal Letters Patent. Specimens of Polyautography consisting Impressions taken from original Drawings made purposely for this work.' The tiny curled landscape to be seen below the title-page inscription bears the work of 'Heath Sc.' thus possibly giving the engraver a claim to have been the first artist to engrave in a lithograph work, even though the polyautograph by Benjamin West is dated 1801, possibly for effect so as to attract others. Phillip Andre was the patentee in England, by authority of Senefelder, the inventor.
