Letter from R.B.Sheridan to R.B.Peake.
Fetcham, Sunday
I am surprised to learn from Mr.Ward that you never received the letter I sent to you by Graham Jr. Ward being present. Pray find him out at Somerset Place and know the reason for this - for if you had received it Mr.Heath (with whom after so long and intimate acquaintance I should be very sorry seriously to dispute) would have known that I never thought of asking him to take the Shares in Payment, only to have them made out in his name 'till in the course of a few days I turned them into ready money for him.
I shall be in Town on Wednesday when I will do this. Yours truly, R.B.S.

Longmans, London.
Sir,
Since we had the pleasure of seeing you we have had a call from Mr.Heath who is of opinion that the expense of engraving the plates will not exceed the sum you mentioned.
If agreeable to you we no objection to engage in your work on the plan of dividing profits - in which case we take on ourselves all the expenses and risks of Paper - Printing - Engraving &c. and after they are repaid by the Sales - the profits are divided in two equal shares one half belongs to you and the other to us. You will have the goodness to inform us if this plan meets with your approbation - if so an outline of an agreement wil be drawn up for your inspection.
It appears to us that the Book should be printed in Octavo - the number 1000 - the price about 15/-.
We are, Sir, Your most obedient Servants.

Imperial Parliament - House of Lords
Clergy
The House resolved itself into a Committee on the Clergy Penalty Suspension Bill.
The Petition of Mr.Wright against the Bill having been read, Mr.Sergeant Copley and Mr.Heath appeared as Counsel on behalf of the Petitioner. The former was heard as to the expense already incurred by Mr.Wright in commencing actions upon the faith of an Act of Parliament, and the loss which might ultimately fall upon him by the death of the parties in the interval of suspension, or upon his family by his own death.
Mr.Heath had begun to address the House, when,-
The Lord Chancellor thought that the number of actions commenced ought to have been proved.
Mr.Serjeant Copley stated that if the House would grant the indulgence of further time all the evidence would be ready.
Lord Ellenborough wished to know the number of actions commenced.
Mr.Serjeant Copley stated that the number was about 360, about 200 of which was in the name of Mr.Wright.
The Lord Chancellor observed that the Petitioner's complaint of grievance could only be applied to those actions which were commenced in his own name.
Counsel were ordered to withdraw, and the Bill passed through the Committee, and was reported without amendment.
Adjourned till Monday.

Court for the Relief of Insolvent Debtors. Before Mr.Serjeant Palmer, the Commissioner, at Guildhall, Westminster
The Court sat for the first time at nine o'clock yesterday morning.
Mr.Dixon and Mr.Newman attended with their prisoners from the Fleet and from Newgate; but the Marshall of the King's Bench would not suffer any of his prisoners to come up, and the Serjeant took a note of the proofs of serving the order upon him. About twenty prisoners were in the list, the greater part of whom were remanded for defects in their schedules and notices.
Colonel Davision, late in the East India Company's service, was opposed by Mr.Heath, on the ground that he had been out of the rules; but the witness, Mr.Reynolds, could not, upon his recollection, state the day on which he saw him. It was, however, in the year 1809.
A further objection was taken, that the form of the oath was inaccurate, as it did not state that he had been a prisoner in actual custody, from the date of his first confinement in 1807; but after giving a history of various imprisonments, concluded that he was, "on the 27th of February 1811, and from thence hitherto has continued an actual prisoner.
Mr.Prince Smith, for the prisoner, argued that this oath being according to the fact, was sufficient, and that no part of the Act required a close confinement for more than three months, whereas, if the contrary were held, a man who had once been out of the rules must remain imprisoned for life, and though confined in a close cell for three years after, could not expiate this offence.
Mr.Serjeant Palmer, after some discussion on other points, thought the oath sufficient in this case, and directed the Colonel to be brought up on Monday, to correct a few items in the schedule, and make his assignment.

Clergy.
On the question for going into a Committee on the Clergy Suits, Suspension Bill, Counsel (Mr.Sergeant Copley and Mr.Heath), pursuant to their Lordships' orders, appeared at the Bar in support of Mr.Wright's Petition against the Bill. The former was heard, and the latter was about to address the House; when -
Lord Ellenborough made some observations respecting the case, as brought before their Lordships, and adverted to certain of the allegations on the part of the Petitioner, which did not appear to have been adequately substantiated, and upon these points some explanation took place between his Lordship and the Learned Counsel - - - continues - - - -
