Ruth Williamson - born August 1851 in Kimberley, Notts, and died 1937 in the Basford area. She married Richard Andrew Roe - born November 1849 in Ripley, Derbyshire and died May 1913 in Melton Mowbray area. 

They had the following children -

Ruth Roe (Swannell, Jones) - 

Ruth Roe was born in August, 1889, in Kimberly,Nottingham and died in 16 June 1961 at the General Hospital, Nottingham, aged 72. Married, August 1907 to Arthur John Jones

Ruth Roe was the daughter of Richard Thomas Roe and Ruth Williamson

Ruth and Authur's children were Richard Stanley Jones, Elizabeth Doris Jones and Gladys May Jones.

Ruth Roe married Arthur John Jones  in August 1907, he was an electrical engineer, she was 21 and he was 22

In her younger years Ruth was not only a singer but a violinist and pianist, she gave public concerts in Nottingham. She was at the time compared to Clara Butt a very well known contralto singer.

Her husband died in May 1919 aged 35

Owen - " She was devastated by his death as she was left with three children to care for and many bills to pay, the family home had to be sold and new accommodation for the four of them had to be found.

Owen - "My grandmother was a very compassionate lady, your mother and her sister Edna’s picture hung in her bedroom and in the dining room. When she learnt of RSJ’s son Bill (William Slack) was in care she arranged for him to come and stay with us on several occasions."

In her earlier life Ruth was born on the family farm, she had lambs as pets and had to churn the butter if she got into trouble. After her marriage she brought up her three children RSJ, Doris and Gladys. Life changed during the war when people were billeted in the house and Owen came along in 1941. He has vague memories of the people who were with them and helped care for him.
